Unlike the previous post, more time was spent fixing flaws since the location involved plenty of reflections and distractions which needed a few hours of Photoshop. I'm not too pleased with the resulting image and would have done things different while shooting if I had a chance. This is a good reminder for me as I'd forgotten how messy reflections can be on a shiny new car (This one had just 150kms on the odometer).

Automotive photography has to be my most favorite kind of photography. I guess it has something to do with the fact that I'm a bit of a car geek. The first car I photographed was the Nissan GT-R along with a Ferrari F430 and BMW M coupe for DriveArabia all the way back in 2009. Life had been a lot different then since four hours of post processing per picture didn't feel excessive. I believe this picture had over 50 layers in Photoshop and I was extremely proud of the result. Over the years the number of layers had reduced and the time spent shooting had increased. I’d never buy a Nokia ever or so I thought when I bought my first mobile phone i.e. a Sony Ericssion K700 around 8 years back. Right now I have a Nokia Lumia 920 in my hand courtesy Nokia UAE who have been kind enough to hand me a gorgeous white unit for a couple of weeks for testing. I've fallen in love with the phone and I’m going to buy one by the end of the month. It will be my first Nokia phone…. *shudders* Getting on topic; here is another Phone vs DSLR attempt but obviously this time with the fantastic Carl Zeiss lens on the Lumia. To keep the playing field even, I chose a prime...

Arabian Toad DSLRvsPhone Featured

The colour reproduction difference between the two pictures is huge making one look better than the other (depending on your preference) showing what different (sized) sensors see in almost similar lighting. When this comparison is removed, each picture stands out quite well on its own where one does something better than the other and vice versa. What was interesting for me is that I shot with the smartphone first and used the DSLR only as an afterthought. Subject : Arabian Toad (Bufo arabicus) Location : Kalba, Sharjah, UAE Shooting Date/Time : 15/11/2012 07:06 AM Cameras used : Canon EOS 5D MarkII...

Picture-perfect professionalism

27th Oct 2012 Sharjah-Kalba feature

Being a ‘professional’ photographer is something I tend to gloat about a little too much. Not something I do verbally, but it is how I approach a shot-worthy subject or scenario. The thinking cap is showed off; going down on the knees to get a different angle has become a habit of profound observation and trying to get that perfect image in one shutter actuation is the unwanted, superficial pressure. Today as a makeshift photo trip, Shruti and I headed out to Sharjah-Kalba highway in search of a dam that I managed to find on Google maps. The dam itself was bone-dry but on the way we stumbled...

We don’t get many cloudy days in the UAE so when such a day does present itself, any person with a camera (DSLR or phone) should get off his buttocks and shoot some stunning cityscape (or landscape) photos of the dazzling city of Dubai.
